Education & Advocacy

I am committed to advocacy on behalf of members of the queer communities.  As a queer-specialist, I am open to, and understanding of, the intersecting identities and experiences that many queer folks hold. The openness and expansiveness of the queer communities often means a background in or curiosity about many ways of being in the world that are typically over-looked, oppressed, judged, and “othered.” In order to make space for and to serve individuals from queer communities, providers need to be comfortable with a wide range of topics and experiences that may not be a consistent part of work with cis- or hetero- normative folks. Learning how to deal with one’s own personal discomfort while remaining open and accepting of another’s experiences is a fundamental aspect of work with queer communities. Below is a non-comprehensive list of topics, experiences, and ideas that providers working with (or communities interacting with) queer individuals need be well-versed in:

  •  Race, class, & social justice issues

  • Gender theory & gender justice

  • The intersectionality of race/class/gender/sexual-orientation

  • Transgender identity and transition-related concerns

  • Asexuality

  • Intersexuality

  • Minority stress

  • Sex and sex-worker positivity

  • Poly-amory

  • BDSM & Kink

  • Religion & spirituality/religious & spiritual abuse

If you are interested in a psycho-educational seminar or coaching for your organization on any of the topics above, please fill out a contact form. I very much look forward to hearing from you and walking with you on a journey towards trans* and queer affirmation and support.
